Who we are
Brasil de Fato (BdF) is a news website and a radio agency founded on January 25, 2003. It currently holds local newspapers in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Paraná, Pernambuco, Ceará, Bahia, Paraíba, and Rio Grande do Sul.
BdF was launched by popular movements that believe democratizing the media is crucial for a just and fraternal society. It contributes to debate ideas and analyze events from the point of view of those who defend the need for social changes in our country.
The network’s first outlet was a national weekly printed paper launched at the World Social Forum 2003, in Porto Alegre, that circulated for almost 10 years. After that, the Brasil de Fato website was created to carry out news coverage of social struggles, together with interviews and news on politics, economy, human rights, and culture, all from a people’s perspective of cities, Brazil, and the world.
The regional branches started in May 2013 to come closer to readers and establish dialogues with local realities.
In 2014, BdF incorporated the radio agency News from Planalto (NP), which had 10 years in radio news production. Every piece by our radio agency is sent to stations all over the country and is made available on the website in text or audio. Our news aimed themes like politics, economics, human rights, daily life, culture, and the production of services.
Plural and diverse in its composition and focus, BdF gathers journalists, contributors, and social movements from Brazil and the world.
In addition to the website, the radio agency, and the printed versions, Brasil de Fato is on social media – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, Flickr, SoundCloud, and Spotify.
All the contents of Brasil de Fato may be reproduced freely, provided that the material is reproduced in full and the source is cited.
